Helen Duffy runs an international legal practice ‘Human Rights in Practice’ through which she represents victims in supranational strategic human rights litigation. She is Gieskes Chair of International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law at the Grotius Centre of the University of Leiden. Current areas of focus include counter-terrorism, rendition and modern day slavery. She was previously Legal Director of INTERIGHTS, Legal Director of the Centro para Accion Legal en Derechos Humanos Guatemala, Counsel to Human Rights Watch on International Justice, Legal Officer in the Prosecutor’s office of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), AssT. Secretary to L.J. Scott’s Arms to Iraq Inquiry and lawyer in the UK government legal service. Her books and publications include ‘The War on Terror on the Framework of International law (2nd ed., Cambridge 2015).
