On 7 September at 11:00 at Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) the mass media are cordially invited to attend a press conference on the12th Annual Conference of the European Society of International Law (ESIL).
The press conference will be opened by RGSL Rector Professor George Ulrich. Also present will be Latvian Constitutional Court judge Professor Ineta Ziemele, Saeima Deputy Speaker Inese Lībiņa-Egnere and Deputy State Secretary on Strategy of the Latvian Ministry of Justice, Inguss Kalniņš. The press Conference will be moderated by Dina Gailīte, editor of the legal journal “Jurista Vārds”.
The Conference is hosted by RGSL in cooperation with the Latvian Constitutional Court, the Latvian Ministry of Justice and the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Conference is supported by the University of Latvia and the European Commission. More than 400 participants from 43 countries are expected to attend the Conference, whose theme is: "How International Law Works in Times of Crisis”.The ESIL Conference will take place on 8 – 10 September at the National Library of Latvia, in Riga.
Among the participants are judges from international courts as well as top experts on issues related to crisis and the debate will focus on such themes as refugee law, global governance, European Union law, and enforcement of international law. Experts such as Judge James Crawford (International Court of Justice), Vice President of the French Council of State Jean-Marc Sauvé, Judge Danute Jočiene (Lithuanian Constitutional Court), Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkēvičs, Deputy Secretary-General of the European Commission Ilze Juhansone and Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Mužnieks will attend the Conference.
